Malcolm wins £1.65 million freight grant
The Scottish Executive has awarded WH Malcolm £1.65 million to redevelop its rail freight terminal, near Paisley, Glasgow. It is one award from the £41.2 million the Scottish Executive is providing in freight facilities grants (FFG) over the next three years.
The grant will pay for container handling equipment and a large new storage area for containers as they are shipped to and from nearby Grangemouth.
Transport Minister, Tavish Scott said: 'This substantial funding for WH Malcolm in a ground-breaking project for short-haul rail will remove 655,000 lorry miles from Scotland's roads each year and will highlight to others in the freight industry the benefits of transferring freight from our already congested roads.'
